Newly admitted students of the University of Ilorin have been advised to shun vices because the University has zero tolerance for cultism, hooliganism, indecent dressings and all other social vices.
They have also been advised to remember the sons and daughters of whom they are if they were determined to excel in life.

A senior staff of the Human Resources Unit of the Registry Department, University of Ilorin, Mr. Kabir Adewoyin, gave the advice last Tuesday (January 9, 2018) while answering questions on 'Oro to nlo', a popular Yoruba current affairs programme on Unilorin 89.3 FM.
Mr. Adewoyin, who congratulated the students for scaling the hurdles of admission into the University, advised all parents to caution their children against joining bad groups and unregistered associations.

He said that any student found wanting would be expelled because students are awarded certificates if they are found worthy in character and learning, pointing out that after the official orientation course any student that fails to comply with the rules and regulations of the institution would be shown the way out.
Appreciating the management of the University of Ilorin for sponsoring training and retraining of staff of the institution, Mr. Adewoyin described the tenure of the Registrar, Mr. Emmanuel Dada Obafemi, who is currently the National Chairman of the Association of Registrars of Nigerian Universities (ARNU) as a blessing to the University.
According to Mr. Adewoyin, the weekly Registry seminar and other forms of staff development programmes initiated by the Registrar, have put staff of the University of Ilorin, especially the Registry staff, ahead of their contemporaries in other universities.
Commenting on the state of the nation, Mr. Adewoyin, who is also a distinguished Islamic cleric, lamented that Nigerians were suffering in the midst of plenty because everyone has forgotten God.

While quoting a Quranic verse that says “God will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves”, Mr. Adewoyin urged Nigerians to go back to God as He is the Only One that could grant all the desires of man.
He also appealed to the government officials and all office holders in the country to fear God in their dealings with the people, reminding them that every living soul would account for their deeds on earth on the Day of Resurrection.
Commenting on the incessant killings of innocent people, communal clashes, and religious violence that erupted in the country, the Islamic scholar enjoined Nigerians to tolerate one another, love one another, see one another as creatures of God through Adam and to live together in harmony, saying, “There is beauty in diversity”.

Mr. Adewoyin, however encouraged Nigerian youths to use their youthful age wisely by studying very hard, before reaching the old age because time is life and time lost can never be regained.
On the connection between Islam and Information Communication Technology, the Islamic Cleric observed that the ICT came into existence to make learning easy for man and has in so many ways been useful to the teaching and propagation of Islam.
He explained that there are lots of topics and issues from the Glorious Quran and teachings of the Prophet Muhammed (Peace Be Upon Him) on how to live a happy and healthy life, human relations, Islamic medicine, Islamic philosophy and complete translation and transliteration of the Holy Quran that have been made available online.
He also observed that ICT could be useful to transform the world to an abode where peace will reign if properly managed.
