How to Successfully Gain Admission Into Unilorin This Year2018

Every student wants to gain admission and while some have been able to achieve this, others have not. You need to first bear in mind that the University of Ilorin is the most sought after University in Nigeria and Admissions is always very competitive.

Today, I will be sharing with you some quick tips on how to successfully gain admission into this great University of Ilorin, (UNILORIN). First of all, you need to know that the University is among the top 5 most sought after universities in Nigeria with over 100,000 Jambites struggling to be admitted here every year.

It is also worthy of note that UNILORIN admission quota as stipulated by the National Universities Commission(NUC) is just about 10,000. This number represents exactly 10% of UTME applicants who choose the University yearly.

The statistics above simply shows how competitive it is to gain admission into UNILORIN. Therefore, one need not just be intelligent but also smart to make it here.

Over time, many have failed to gain admission here because they did not choose their course wisely, I strongly advise that, unless you are a far-above-average student, you should avoid choosing courses like Medicine, Pharmacy, Law,  Mass Communication, Accounting, Economics, Microbiology etc.

This is because majority of the candidates that come for UNILORIN post utme annually choose those courses and only a few of them are admitted while the rest misses out no matter how intelligent they might be as the school can not possibly admit more than it’s carrying capacity for each department.

If you really just need admission as an average student, simply choose courses that are less competitive. When you are admitted, you may then consider changing over to your dream course or taking it up as a second degree after graduation. You don’t have to keep writing JAMB for the same course every year, try other less competitive courses.

Also, let me draw your attention to the fact that UTME subjects combination matters, Last year, some students were denied admission because of wrong selection of subjects and you need to bear in mind sometimes that University of Ilorin subjects combination sometimes does not usually tally with JAMB brochure combination because JAMB is yet to update their brochure and often times, candidates pick subjects that does not tally with their course, For Example, when a candidate fill UTME for Accounting under Jamb, H/She will see that it's placed under faculty of Social Sciences which is not so here at the University of Ilorin, it's otherwise under faculty of Management Sciences(keep reading).

Many have seen the University as a monster while admitting candidates because you don't know how the University admission is being run and the admission policy and the fact that the admission process is simple , I have seen Jambites who claim that the Univesity of Ilorin only admits candidates from Kwara state and it’s environs then discriminate against non-Yoruba candidates. That’s a mere fallacy!

The University strictly follows the Federal Government admission policy which states that institutions should admit candidates based on 45% Merit, 35% Catchment Area and 20% Education Less Developed States (ELDS), Remedial case is a different thing for now. It may interest you to know that a candidate from an educationally less privileged state like Bauchi, Benue, Ebonyi etc. with an average score of 180 stands a better chance of admission into UNILORIN than a candidate from Kwara state with an average score of 240.

This is simply because majority of secondary leavers here in the south east, who of course always seek to further their education in the University, usually choose UNILORIN for it’s proximity and great reputation.

This large number of applicants end up competing for the few available admission space for catchment area whereas the very few candidates from education less developed states who choose UNILORIN end up having more admission space than they can possibly fill (keep reading).

Does it interest you to know that University of Ilorin Admission is based on Merit but not "pure merit? Do you know that the University of Ilorin supplementary list admission is far more competitive? Do you know that JAMB and Post UTME scores are also requirements for admission here? Please, Be informed that the University of Ilorin will still conduct Post UTME this year 2018.

Do you know you can still gain admission with your low score in JAMB? Does it interest you to know that you can gain admission irrespective of the fact that you failed JAMB. Message/Call now. 08060948531

At the moment, the best you can do is to keep checking for your 2018 JAMB results . Hopefully, your result will be made available in no distant time.

Please do let us know the moment you are able to check your results so others will proceed to check their also.

University Of Lagos (UNILAG) To Establish Refineries

The University of Lagos, UNILAG, have announced it would soon set up conventional and standard locally-built refineries to boost the nation’s refinery capacity.

The Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, made this known at the 1st Annual General Meeting, AGM, and 2nd Alumni Lecture of the UNILAG Faculty of Engineering Alumni Association.

According to Ogundipe, the students of the school needed to be exposed to refining process as an institution that produced graduates in Chemical Engineering.

According to him, “Committee has been set up to under-study the process from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

“If you go to some of the universities in Texas, when their students graduate, because they have refineries in their universities they do not need to do certain courses when it comes to professional courses. Engineering has left that level of just setting down and starts computing.

“It is now about turning ideas to realities. It is about producing entrepreneurial skills and developing the skills in the life our students.“We need to develop our students, all of them have skills that are unique to them, and the skills can help them set up their own businesses in future.“Most of our students can develop application while some are with different skills. As a Vice Chancellor, faculty by faculty I am going to interact with students to encourage them, to develop their skills and we have already gotten the commitment of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, and Bank of Industry, BOI for funds.”

MAPOLY students Shutdown school over non-release of results

Scores of students of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, stormed the institution Monday morning (today) and shut the main gate leading to the school, effectively denying academic and non-academic staff access into the compound.

Our correspondent gathered that the final year students at the Higher National Diploma level formed the bulk of those responsible for the locking of the school gate.

Sources among them said they were protesting the non-release of their final year results by the academic staff

The students had concluded their final examination in January 2018, and had hoped to be mobilised for the one-year National Youth Service Corps programme in April 2018.

They argued that with the delay in the release of their results, it is uncertain that they will be able to meet up with the April batch.

It will be recalled that trouble started in the institution between the academic staff and the state government in January 2017 over the proposed transformation of MAPOLY to Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology, and the establishment of the new Ogun State Polytechnic, Ipokia.

YABATECH Rector Urges Academic Union To Commence Night Classes

The Rector, Yaba College of Technology, Obafemi Omokungbe, on Friday charged the academic staff union of the college to commence 7p.m. to 9p.m. lectures, following the establishment of a Common Room in the college.

Omokungbe gave the advice at the inauguration of a Common Room, established by members of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics YABATECH Chapter.

He said that the introduction of the facility was to unite lecturers from various departments and encourage inter-departmental collaboration.

The rector said that lecturers could take off from the common room for their night lectures, which he hoped would be considered by the union.

Omokungbe urged union members
in the college to continue to operate as one family.

He said:

“I want to thank you, the executives and members, for setting up this common room, and I urge you to put it to good use. 

“Don’t let sentiment destroy this place; let us continue to rub minds together here. “When we meet in common room like this, the idea of collaborating together begins to come up, and our job will be much easier. 

“In the past, you can hardly see lecturers from Food Technology Department, those in science around; but with this, we can see ourselves and look after ourselves. 

“Sometimes, you will not see some people for like three to six months; but with this arrangement, you can keep your relationships and know the whereabouts of your colleagues. 

“Now that you have this, and you meet here regularly, it will be easier to know who is not around and we can ask of the person. 

“I am going to be a regular customer here; I will come here to have refreshment for about 20 to 30 minutes. I think time will permit me. 

“If you go to Unilag Staff Club, the vice-chancellors and the professors come together and drink and felicitate with one another. 

“So, I don’t know if the union intends to open it to 9.00 p.m., because if you do that, then the 7 to 9 p.m. lecture becomes more interesting; you can take off from here, since alcohol will not be sold. 

“Lecturers can take off from the common room and go to the lecture room; I hope that will be done soon.” Omokungbe donated an air conditioner to the common room, and promised to allocate a vacant land to the union, if feasible, for its secretariat.

He said:
“This is the time to correct some of the things you have agitated for in the past; you have agitated for us to have a befitting secretariat in this college.

“We want to appeal to the rector that we have identified a place where we can build our secretariat and before the end of 2018, we want to have our ASUP secretariat erected.

“We want the management to help us; we are not saying they should do everything for us, but we cannot do it alone.”

Responding, Nureni Yekini, the Chairman of ASUP in the institution, urged the rector to correct some of the things he had condemned in the past administration of the college. He said that the union would work out modalities to commence the night classes, as requested by the rector.

Yekini appealed to the management of the college to allocate a vacant land to the union, for the construction of ASUP Secretariat.

Yekini said that the renovation of the common room was financed by members’ check-off dues.

After Release of 2018 JAMB Results, What Next? Here's What To Do

We can say that the 2018 JAMB UTME has officially been concluded. While some candidates are counting their gains, others are counting their losses.

Which ever category you fall in, we just want you to know that a high JAMB score is not an automatic ticket to higher institution neither does a low JAMB score automatically disqualify you for admission.

We have seen candidates with high JAMB scores who failed to gain admission into any institution and had to retake JAMB and we have equally seen candidates with low JAMB Scores (Less than 200) who gained admission without having to wait for another JAMB.

So basically, a low or high JAMB score is not the ultimate determinant of who gains and who doesn't gain admission.

So at this point, what we expect all 2018 JAMB candidates to do is to ask the following critical questions?

>> What is my school's cut-off mark ?

>> What is the cut-off mark for my intended course of study?

>> Do I need a change of course/institution?

>> What's the school's Post-UTME Screening like?

>> How Can I prepare adequately for my school's Post-UTME Screening?

The answer to these critical questions will help you know what next step to take towards successfully securing admission this year.

And let's quickly tell you this, take off the retarding mindset that you can not go to a polytechnic. Are they for animals?

If going by your score, you stand a better chance of gaining admission in a polytechnic, for goodness sake, change your institution to a polytechnic if you didn't pick one during your JAMB registration.

Unless of course you don't mind patronising JAMB next year. And if that is the case, good luck to you!
Meanwhile, do not forget Eduportalblog will be there for you all through the journey. So ensure you visit regularly for updates regarding the 2018/2019 Admission exercise.

Admission Success to you all!

2018 UTME: How Well Do You Think JAMB Has Performed?

The 2018 JAMB UTME has come and gone with most of the results already released (apart from the pending ones).

---
Going by the experiences of candidates who participated in the exam, there were highs and lows. Though that was to be expected.

This thread is for you to rate the whole process and conduct of the 2018 JAMB UTME based on your observations and experiences.

On a scale of 1- 10, how well do you think JAMB has performed this year regarding the conduct of the UTME?

Were there some remarkable changes you think are worth it?  Are there equally some you think JAMB should do away with before next year's UTME?

We would like your views to be backed up with valid points. You can equally state your suggestions regarding future improvements.

Please do share your views on the comment section.

JAMB 2018 Candidates With Pending Result Issues - Get in here

We understand that quite a number of candidates still have not been able to check their results on the JAMB portal.

---
We equally learnt that a number of candidates who saw the details of their results when they first checked on JAMB portal can no longer access the results. Their results have suddenly "disappeared".

JAMB had earlier announced that about 111,981 results have been withheld for further screening to ensure they are clean from malpractice.

This means that the main reason (may not be the only reason) why some candidates are yet to see their results or why some candidates results have "disappeared" is that their results are likely among the ones withheld for reasons connected to exam malpractice.

It is likely that such candidates or the centre where they took the exams were implicated in cases of examination malpractices.

Now, the candidates whose results are among the ones withheld will have to wait for JAMB to get done with the screening.

We believe that after the screening, JAMB will release and upload all results that were not implicated in any form of malpractice on their portal.

This should not take more than one week. So if after one week and you still cannot to access your result on JAMB portal, I'm sorry to say this, but just take it that your result have been cancelled.

If you are among the candidates that are yet to see their results or those that their results have "disappeared" please indicate on the comment section. Let us know your exam centre and if there was any incidence or other reasons you think may have led to your result being withheld.
