JAMB Commends Conduct Of Mock Exam, Explains Why Some Candidates Did Not Partake

It has been disclosed that out of the 258,000 candidates that applied to partaek in the 2018 JAMB Mock exam held yesterday, only 211,000 candidates took part.

According to the JAMB Registrar, this was due to insufficient space to accommodate interested students in some of the computer-based centres across the nation.

He mentioned that it was not like the board could not allow all the candidates partake in the exam.

However, due to the fact that centres are not evenly spread in all the states and in some states the number of candidates exceeded the nunber of facilities available in that case it is only logical for JAMB to pick just the number that the facilities within a town or state can accomodate.

The registrar said there would not be ‘mop-up’ for candidates noting that ”its either the candidates write the exam or do not do the exam”.

He experessed satisfaction over the conduct of the mock exam as out of the 602 centres being used, only six of the centres had challenges.

Similarly, the registrar said books or any reading/writing material, cameras, recorders, microphones, ear pieces, ink/pen readers, smart lenses, smart rings/jewellery, smart buttons and Bluetooth devices will not be allowed into the centres.

The registrar said the prohibition of materials is applicable to candidates, supervisors and examiners.

JAMB Mock Experience 2018 - Tips To Help You During The Main Exam

The just concluded 2018 JAMB mock exam was a success. We hope the main exam will record a much better success.
Based on the feedback we got from the JAMB 2018 Mock Exam Live Updates thread, we've come up with some important points all candidates should take note of ahead of the main examination.

We believe this will help you know how best to tackle the main exam which comes up on March 9th.

From what we observed, not so much changed from what it was last year. If you have been practicing JAMB Past questions with the Eduportalblog JAMB CBT Software or the Eduportalblog CBT Mobile App , you won't find the main exam difficult as the lay out is quite similar. Many candidates confessed they came across a good number of past questions on the Eduportalblog JAMB CBT Software or the Eduportalblog CBT Mobile App

For the benefit of doubt, there will be 180 questions; 60 for English, 40 for each of the other subjects.

The time given for the exam is 120 Minutes (2 hours).

Candidates are expected to answer all the questions on the four subjects they registered within the given time.

If you are using the keyboard, here are the most important keys;

N - To move to the next question

P - To go back to the previous question

A - To select option A on a question

B - To select option B on a question

C - To select option C on a question

D - To select option D on a question

S - To submit your exam (Be Careful)

R - To Cancel Submit (and RETURN)

All the above will be stated before you start the exam, so you should read instructions properly before starting.

Please note that there are things that the Keyboard method does not offer you. In this case, you must use your Mouse (or track-pad). These are;

1. If you need to switch from one subject to another. Like if you want to answer a particular subject before going to another.

2. If you need to use the on-screen calculator at the top right corner of your screen.

The On-screen calculator will be available on the screen for candidates who will be taking subjects that involve calculations. For those who have been using the Eduportalblog JAMB CBT Software or the Eduportalblog CBT Mobile App , the position of the calculator is where the actual JAMB calculator is.

Candidates taking subjects that involve calculations are also advised to go along with a pencil and a copy or two of their exam slip incase JAMB fails to provide plain sheet for rough calculations. JAMB is serious about the prohibited items. So ensure you do not go into the hall with such items.

Also note that due to logistics issues, the exam may commence later than expected as witnessed during the mock. This does not mean you should not go to the exam centre at least 30 minutes before the time stipulated on your Exam Slip. However, be sure to eat before going and go along with some cash in case of eventuality.

If there is any point you think we left out, kindly state it on the comment section.

Goodluck Everyone!

JAMB Mock Exam Questions for 2018 UTME

The 2018 Mock exam generally, seems to have been a successful one going by the updates we've received so far on the JAMB 2018 Mock Exam Live Updates thread.

Based on demands from candidates who did not parctipate in the JAMB mock exam, we are creating this thread to capture some of the questions that were asked in the mock exam.

Candidates who participated in the mock exam are encouraged to share the questions they came across on each subject here.

The aim is to give other candidates fresh ideas on the kind of questions to expect during the main exam and propel them to study as hard as they can since the main exam is just few days away.

So this should not stop candidates from reading their books and practicing past questions on the CBT Mobile App and the CBT Computer Software.

We advise you comment only the questions you came across during the mock examination. Also, specify the Subject before commenting the question(s).

If possible, you can go ahead to provide the options that were given for each of the questions so other candidates can try to proffer solutions.

2018 UTME: Protesters Took To The Street To Demand Postponement of Exam Date

A number of protesters took to the street in Lagos to demand that the date for the conduct of the 2018 UTME be postponed.

The protesters were seen carrying placards with various inscriptions like; “Admissions are yet to close, why conducting another UTME now?”; “JAMB isn’t for revenue generation, stop milking our parents,” “2017 UTME held in May, why March in 2018?”, “2018 admissions not transparent”.

Many argued the rationality of fixing another JAMB exam in March when the 2017/2018 Admission exercise had barely ended.

They said many of them, who had hoped to be admitted by various institutions during the 2017/2018 academic calendar year, just found out this week that they were not admitted and that less than one month cannot be enough to prepare for another examination.

Commenting on this, the National President of the Association of Tutorial School Operators (ATSO), Dotun Sodunke, said , the new head of JAMB needs to be called to order. He should not be carried away by the euphoria of revenue generation. The future of this country depends on these children.

“JAMB is sure that if you conduct the exam early, many candidates would fail, and they would come back to register again next year. This is so because their children don’t school here." He said.

Responding to this, the JAMB spokesman, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, said that was no basis for postponement of the exam; stating that it is not candidates are not the ones protesting against the UTME date but tutorial centres operators.

According to him, the tutorial centre operators are doing this because they want to keep the candidates at their centres till May so that they can get more money from them.

He mentioned that the Government wants all academic calendar to begin by August and that is why all admissions will be concluded by August this year which explains why the UTME date has to be fixed in March.

JAMB Mock Exam 2018: Things To Take Note Of During The Exam

It is no more news that the much awaited JAMB Mock exam for 2018 UTME candidates will finally hold on Monday February 26th, 2018.

If you are among those that will be writing the exam, please do take it serious as you may likely pick one or two things that will help you in the main examination.

Also do not forget that other candidates that won't be partcipating in the exam will depend on you for updates and relevant information concerning the conduct of the mock exam. So please take note of everything that is happening in your centre and keep us updated.

We will create a LIVE UPDATES thread on that day, so you can let us know anything that is happening before the Mock exam begins or if there are any delays in the process.

While in the hall, please take note of everything but most importantly;

1. Check if there are CCTV Cameras

2. Check if the Computer systems are special in anyway

3. When you login to take an exam, check how the CBT environment is laid out.

4. Where is the time Located, Where are your Subject Navigation Located, Where are the Question Numbers Located, e.t.c.

5. Check if you can use both Keyboard and Mouse.

6. Check the time given for the exam

7. Check the number of questions given.

8. Finally check if there is any thing new with the whole process.

Ensure you arrive your centre at least 30 minutes before your scheduled time.

If you are going to the exam with any of the banned items , ensure you keep them some where safe outside the hall to avoid being punished or disqualified.

Lastly, do not forget to come back to Myschool to share your experiences. There will be a thread for that after the mock exam.

All the best!

JAMB Releases List Of Banned Items In Exam Halls

A list of banned items by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board ahead of the 2018 Mock exam as well as the main exam has been released.

The prohibited items are wrist watches, pen/biro, mobile phones or similar electronic devices, spy reading glasses which should be scrutinised, calculators or similar

electronic devices, USB, CD, hard disks and/or similar storage devices, books or any reading/writing material, cameras, recorders, microphones, ear pieces, ink/pen readers, smart lenses, smart rings/jewellery, smart buttons and Bluetooth devices.

In case of medicated eye glasses, the examination officials are allowed to scrutinise it and where convinced that such item may compromise the sanctity of the examination, the examination official would have to confiscate it.

Whereby an examination official (board staff or ad hoc staff) or any authorised person is found with any of these prohibited items in the examination hall, such compromising action would be treated as a deliberate act of examination sabotage and necessary sanction will be applied.

These are part of the steps being taken by the JAMB Monitoring Goup, a Civil Society Groups inaugrated by the JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, in checkmating examination malpractice.

Last year, the groups were reputed to have assisted in giving information from the field and transmitted several challenges, as applicable, to JAMB officials which helped in curbing the high rate of examination malpractices in 2017.

2018 UTME: Blind candidates to write exam by ‘dictation’ –JAMB

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board said the examination mode for blind candidates for the 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination was likely to be conducted by dictation, as was done in 2017 .

Head , Media and Information , JAMB , Dr . Fabian Benjamin , gave the hint in an interview with the
News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday in Lagos.

Benjamin was speaking against the backdrop of calls by some blind candidates in Lagos , seeking to know if they would be using the Braille Note Apex for the forthcoming Computer - Based Test , scheduled for between March 9 and 17 .

According to him , all blind candidates will be writing the 2018 UTME through the dictation mode , as was the case in 2017 .

“ Yes, the candidates would be taking this year ’ s examination through the dictation mode .

“ This dictation would be carried out by the ‘ Equal Opportunity Group , ’ under the supervision of Prof . Peter Okebukola , a former Executive Secretary , National Universities Commission .

“ The Board is mindful of the needs of the Nigerian child and , therefore , will stop at nothing in ensuring that everyone is carried along and given equal opportunity to succeed . ’’

Meanwhile , Benjamin has urged all candidates writing the UTME Mock examination slated for February 26 to start printing their examination details , as notices have already been sent to their respective e- mail addresses .

According to him , the board has concluded all arrangements for a hitch - free conduct of the examination nationwide .

He said candidates were being advised to adhere strictly to the directives issued to them in connection with the conduct of the examination.

Benjamin urged candidates to ensure they arrive at their respective examination centres early.

He further said that lateness , use of mobile phones, wristwatches , bluetooth devices , smart lenses , microphones , earpieces , smart rings, ink pen readers and other electronic devices , would not be allowed .

NAN reports that 245 , 753 of the 1 , 652 , 795 candidates who registered for the examination, were expected to write the mock test . ( NAN
